 Photographers of WWI

Welcome to the WWI photographers page. Here you will find some interesting pictures of WWI, information about who took them and where.

Cameras were not allowed at the front unless you were a licensed photographer. Both sides had this rule because they were afraid that someone could take pictures of their position and reveal the side's weaknesses and location to the other side. Yet even though these rules were there, some men still brought cameras to the front and took pictures. Even  after the pictures were taken they had to be developed and kept safe. For these reasons, pictures of fighting, from the soldier's point of view, are rare.

Yet at all these odds a few men managed to take pictures of the front, from a soldiers point of veiw. One of these men is Jack Turner. His family recognized the value of these pictures and has converted most of his pictures to digital form and have put up a website about him. Here is a like to Jack Turner's site.
